Greek Island Activities have offices in the UK, Greece and Holland. It is an EC business partnership in operation. This ensures professional standards for all services and activities. We do not provide flights to and from Greece. On our site you will find ALL the information that you require to travel to Poros. We believe that in the era of low cost airlines, you get better value for money arranging these independently.

Route : Russian Bay.
We start by leaving Askeli towards the dry
river bed following it up leading to a small
path leading us to a bigger road [forest fire
break] constructed to protect the forest
from any potential fires. It’s the northwest
part of the island today and we will continue
to the top of the hills and then to Russian
bay where in 1834 warehouses and bakeries
were built for the supply of the Russian fleet
sailing in the Aegean. The Russians kept this
property until the 1900s. After this descent
we will arrive at the coastal environment of
the island exploring this as we start to make
our return journey back to Askeli visiting Love
bay, [where we will stop for a swim and a
drink] then to Neorion Bay and from there
back to Askeli.
Route : Poseidon
A 4-hour walk to the eastern side of the
island visiting the Zoodochou Pigi Monastery
(18th century), built on a green slope with a
view to the sea with fantastic views it
combines peace and simplicity. At the
entrance to the Monastery there is a famous
spring with healing properties, which lies on
the side of a torrent, below some huge plane
trees. We will be walking towards the
northeast when we reach the few remaining
ruins of the Doric Temple (6th century)
made of blue limestone with 34 columns.
This place was a sacred asylum for fugitives
and castaways. After lunch we head back
towards Askeli with another couple of breaks
to admire the fantastic views.
Route: Sferia
We start this walk at the canal to Peloponnesus where we take a very small path, which will take
us to the top of the hills of Sferia Island. We will stop for something to drink at a very old, quaint
and small church and as the focus of the walk today is cultural, we will be talking about the
history of Poros, Poseidon and Athena, explaining interesting Greek Myths that give a reason to
life and humorous philosophical anecdotes. On our way through the town we will also visit a local
artist [a traditional weaving place]. From there [walking on the top of the hills] we are going to
the town of Poros. Many of the houses of Poros are samples of the neoclassical architecture.
One can distinguish the Deimezi building made of gray and red stone and Grivas' shop, with its
wide doors and the very beautiful interior decoration, we will also pass and visit small local gardens
landscaped with lemon and orange trees, We will then walk up to the clock tower of Poros
waiting for the sunset with a glass of wine. We can either return to Askeli together or for those
who wish to explore the cafés, bistros and bars of Poros we will accompany them pointing out
the traditional and non traditional venues.

The area known as the Saronic Gulf Region is situated close to Athens amongst
Attica and the Peloponnese. It will always be one of the most significant
areas for European civilizations. In historical times the Greek won the wars with the Persians
resulted in victory, giving us the basis for the Europe that exists today. The Saronic Gulf is one
of the most beautiful areas in Greece, it
makes an ideal area for walking activities throughout the year, or visiting adjacent islands, Poros
and the surrounding area has a tremendous amount of variety to offer you.
The best times of the year to go walking in the area are [beg. - March to end
May] and [mid September - end Nov] although walking in June, July and
August is possible, a very early start is required to avoid the afternoon heat
which can reach as high as 44C. - 110F.
We specifically welcome groups and retired or mature individuals to participate in our walking
activities although individuals of any age are welcome. Most of our walking guests combine
walking or alternate, with one of our other activities but there is no need to do this if you prefer
to spend most of your holiday exploring and walking throughout the area as you will have plenty
variety to choose from.
Each day walk will last approximately 4 - 6 hours. Most walks start by meeting at our Odyssey
Bistro and include:
Pre - walk meet over coffee, and a chance to meet the others who will be
accompanying you
Pre - packed lunch and water.
Any transport to and from starting point of walk and return to Odyssey -
Askeli if required.
The services of our walk- leader throughout the walk.
Coffee and "Greek" cakes on our return to Odyssey Bistro in Askeli.
Route Trizinia.
We start by taking a local boat to the
harbour of ancient Trizina, near Pogon
(today's Vidi), and from there we will walk to
Trizina village visiting the Devils Gorge. The
village was called Damalas in Byzantine times.
Only few years ago, they started to call the
village again with its original name Trizina :
the legendary home of the hero Theseas,
who fought against the King Minoan of Kreta
and eventually killed the Minotaur in its
infamous labyrinth... Trizinia is a important
historic place and even today one can see
the remains of ancient times: the ancient
"hospital" of Asclepios, the (early-Christian)
ruin of the Mitropoli church, the temple of
Hippolytos, remembering the drama of
Phaedra… and then to devils gorge a great
valley of giant rocks, trees and waterfalls

Route : Methana.
Our day starts with being picked up by one of
the local boats, which will take us to the other
side, [mainland of Peloponnesus.] Methana is
one of the most interesting places in the
Saronic Gulf. The mostly volcanic peninsula is a
forgotten place; there is no mass-tourism... and
huge volcanic domes, forests, and valleys
dominate the great mountainous landscape.
Methana is famous for its historic volcanic
eruption that was described by ancient writers
like PAUSANIAS, OVID and STRABO. Our walk
will take us to the little village of Kameni Hora
and from there walk we will walk up to the
center of the volcano. [The fishing port of
Vathy with the acropolis of ancient Methana is
nearby]. We will walk (or alternatively drive)
back to Methana town and from here take the
ferry back to Poros.

The walking tours include frequent and sometimes longer breaks and the pace of walking is
very relaxed. However, individual tours (i.e. The total time spent outside the hotel, including all
breaks and transfers etc.) can range between 3 and 5 hours, depending on the season (longer
days in May!), the weather and the program chosen. Walking boots or similar, sun and wind
protection, a day-backpack, light dressing, a pullover or jacket for the evenings Normal condition
is required. If you are often doing walking-trips or little excursions then it is no problem to take
part in all of our excursions.
