note that these are not designed for expert cyclists who are looking for a
serious challenge. By taking part in our cycle activities and routes you will
experience the thrill of the open coastal roads but also adventure exploring
off the beaten track cycle routes Within the Saronic Gulf, Trizinia, and
adjacent islands there are numerous routes to explore using bicycles.
These range from half day trips to full 8 hour day cycles. We have put
together a range of exciting trips for our cycling based activities.
Cycling in July and August is not recommended due to high temperatures,
although early morning - late evening trips are possible.
CYCLING ACTIVITIES - 2008
2. Cycle route to Vayonia, we go through
the
Poseidon Temple. The temple was built in
520BC and is situated in a location with
panoramic views of
Methana, Aegina and
Athens.
After the visit we cycle down to
Vayonia
where there was once a settlement
which sank into the sea, of which only the
foundations of buildings and paved alleyways are
now visible. Pirates also used this bay as a hiding
place in
Byzantine times, and also during the
time of the Turkish occupation.

This route will take approx 5 hours including
lunch.
3. Cycle to Methana . We start by cycling
into
Poros town to catch the early morning
ferry to
Methana this takes approx 30
minutes. The peninsula of Methana is famous
for the hot springs of volcanic origin that
exist in the city and in another village nearby.
After having a coffee and a swim in the
springs, we start our cycle journey back to
Poros. We follow the coastal route in a
southerly direction stopping at
Steno bay for
lunch. The next part of our route is the most
difficult where we wind our way up from the
coast towards
ag.nikolaos, descending
down into the ancient port of
Trizinia. The
final part of our journey is along the coast
again to catch the ferry back to Poros and
Askeli.
1. Cycle route - Fousa. This route heads
uphill above Askeli our first stop is
Panagitsa
church, with a beautiful patio with running
water that has medicinal properties. Then we
continue up towards the northern coast of
the island, turning west towards
Akritsa.
This will allow us to experience some
beautiful views on the way to Russian Bay.

Russian Bay
is a famous historical site of
Poros for it is the place where the first
Russian ships docked to help the
Greek
Revolution against the Turkish
in 1800.
You can still visit this old naval dockyard. We
finish our journey by passing by
Love Bay,
Neorio
bay and the round of Sferia Island
where the town of
Poros is situated.
4. Cycle route Mainland to Trizinia For
this route we start by cycling into Poros to
catch the short ferry to Galatas. We then
proceed southwest for a short time along
the mainland coast through the lemon and
olive groves. We pass by the three
prehistoric
Mecina tombs and then upwards
towards and through
Trizinia village. Our
next stop is Devils gorge where we will stop
for lunch and a swim in the many deep rock
pools created by the cascading river. Our
return journey takes us past
Hippolytus
sanctuary where the first ever Doctor of
ancient Greece once lived and worked. The
remainder of our return journey will takes us
back down towards the coast where we will
catch the short ferry back to Poros and the
cycle back to
Askeli.
